Section 377 decriminalised: It’s a good day to be gay!

Today we made history. Today the government of India issued a statement, decriminalizing section 377. CJI Dipak Misra and Justice AM Khanwilkar decriminalized section 377 by making gay sex legal, saying, consensual sex between same gender in private is legal and does not violate section 377.

Section 377 was formed by British in 1861 and Indian Government followed through it. However, the times are a’ changing and the law, which stated

“Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with 1[imprisonment for life], or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.”

is finally decriminalized.

While some politicians seemed to have opinions like

Some good politicians also felt like this:

This has got gay rights activists all over the country celebrating out and proud. Homosexuality is taboo in this country, and to some extent, it will still be, hence the people’s adherence to section 377 So in this case it is our government’s responsibility to help air out the issue of sexual freedom which many of us are frankly too hesitant to talk about.

Needless to stay, this is a big step forward by our government, which people have been complaining against doing nothing. Well, there’s your big decision after demonetization, dear India, only, this has made more people happy and “gay”.
